The Problem with a Full Floor Replacement

A conventional tear-out and rebuild means demolishing and disposing of the old gym floor before the new floor starts. That adds cost, mess and potentially weeks of downtime.

Some older floor tiles contain asbestos. Disturbing those materials during tear-out can require a regulated, costly abatement project. The existing floor needs assessment before any work begins.

A New Surface Over the Floor You Have

Interlocking indoor tiles install as a floating surface directly over a suitable existing floor. Click-fit connections mean no adhesives, no demolition and a path back to play with less disruption.

    • A fresh hardwood-look surface without a full tear-out.
    • Click-fit installation with no adhesives.
    • Layouts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and multi-game use.
    • Cushioned indoor options for athlete comfort.

Older Floors and Asbestos: Assess First

Where old floor tile contains asbestos and is intact and in good condition, a floating tile surface may cover the old floor and leave the material undisturbed beneath, instead of demolishing it.

Requirements vary by state and facility type. A qualified asbestos professional should assess the material and determine whether a cover-over approach is appropriate before work begins. Do not sand, drill, break or otherwise disturb suspect flooring.

This is not asbestos removal or abatement, a certified encapsulation system, or a guarantee of legal compliance. Damaged or deteriorating material needs professional evaluation, not a promise that a new surface will solve it.

    Less Tear-Out. One All-In Quote.

When your existing floor is suitable, covering over it avoids demolition and disposal and can minimize downtime compared with a full tear-out and rebuild. Necessary preparation and the installation schedule are assessed for your facility.

    Expert Answers

    Indoor Court Flooring Questions

Can tile go over our existing floor?
Interlocking indoor tiles can install as a floating surface over a suitable existing floor, including worn hardwood or old tile. The floor must be assessed for condition and suitability first. Tiles do not repair an unstable, damaged or uneven base; any necessary preparation is determined during assessment. Request an existing-floor assessment
What if our old floor tile contains asbestos?
For asbestos-containing floor tile that is intact and in good condition, a floating tile surface may be a cover-over option that leaves the old material undisturbed beneath. Requirements vary by state and facility type. Consult a qualified asbestos professional before any work to assess the floor and determine whether this approach is appropriate. Do not sand, drill, break or otherwise disturb suspect material. This is not asbestos removal or abatement, a certified encapsulation system, or a guarantee of legal compliance. Discuss your existing floor
How long will the gym be out of service?
Click-fit installation needs no adhesives and avoids the demolition and disposal stages of a full tear-out when the existing floor is suitable. That can reduce downtime, but the schedule depends on floor condition, court size, preparation and facility access. We confirm the project schedule after assessment rather than promise a fixed turnaround. Plan your installation schedule
What sports can we play on it?
Indoor layouts can accommodate basketball, volleyball, pickleball and multi-game use. Your available space, tile selection and intended games guide the Court CAD layout. Hardwood-look and cushioned indoor options are available within the indoor line. Get a free Court CAD layout
How does it compare with refinishing real hardwood?
Refinishing restores an existing real hardwood surface where its condition allows, and can involve sanding and recoating. A hardwood-look tile system is not real hardwood: it adds a new floating playing surface over a suitable existing floor. The options differ in appearance, feel, maintenance and preparation. Assess the floor and intended use before deciding; suspected asbestos-containing materials should not be sanded or disturbed. Compare options for your facility
