What Fits in a Backyard Sports Court
Court sizes step rather than slide: each size clears room for another sport or a bigger layout. These are the sizes families ask about most.
Compact
30 x 50 ft
Driveway or small backyard. Enough room for basketball or pickleball lines.
Sweet Spot
40 x 60 ft
Our most popular backyard size, with room for more than one sport.
Half Court
42 x 50 ft
A regulation half court with one hoop and one key.
Full Court
50 x 84 ft
A full regulation court for the biggest yards.
Measure only flat, usable ground and plan a 3-foot safety buffer around the tile perimeter. Our guide to sport court sizes walks through measuring your yard.
Home Sport Court Options: Basketball, Pickleball, Multi-Sport
Basketball
A backyard basketball court can run from a driveway-sized pad to a full court with a key at each end. Short on room? A half court basketball court keeps one hoop and one key and needs far less space.
Pickleball
A regulation pickleball court is 20 x 44 ft, and we recommend about 30 x 60 ft of total area once overrun is included. See our backyard pickleball courts for nets, posts and dedicated pickleball tiles.
Multi-Sport
Basketball and pickleball is the pairing most families build. A multi sport court overlays both in contrasting line colors, and a larger pad can add tennis, volleyball or hockey lines.
Residential Sports Court Surfaces
Every residential sports court we supply is built from interlocking modular tiles that float over a flat concrete or asphalt base, with only the perimeter anchored. An outdoor sport court on tile drains quickly, and the color is molded through each tile with UV stabilizers, so it resists the fading and chalking painted courts show.
Weighing tile against bare concrete, asphalt or acrylic paint? Our guide to choosing a sport court surface compares the options.

DIY Kit or Professional Install
Build it yourself
Tiles snap together without adhesive, and pre-boxed court kits include the tiles, court lines and installation guides. Two people typically finish a 40 x 60 ft court in six to ten hours on an existing flat pad, and laying the tile yourself does not void the tile warranty.
Hire a certified installer
We work with certified installers, who handle tile, lines, hoop and net placement, and a typical 40 x 60 ft court installs in 1 to 2 days with a professional crew. We do not pour concrete or asphalt: base work is quoted separately by a licensed local contractor. Find a certified installer.
Our tile lines carry up to a 15-year limited warranty, and financing for qualified buyers is available, subject to approval.
Backyard Court Questions
- What is the best backyard sports court for a family?
- The one your family will actually use most. Basketball and pickleball is the pairing most families build, and a multi-sport court lets one surface serve both, with each set of lines in a contrasting color. Size comes next: 40 x 60 ft is our most popular backyard size, while 30 x 50 ft fits a driveway or small backyard. If younger kids or long sessions are part of the plan, a cushioned tile is easier on knees and ankles. Take the Court Quiz
- Does Game Tile Courts pour the base for a backyard court?
- No. Game Tile Courts supplies modular court tiles, court kits and accessories, and works with certified installers. We do not pour concrete or asphalt. Base work is quoted separately by a licensed local contractor, and our tiles go over a flat, structurally sound pad. Compare court base options
